Growing up, I did not like to read at all. I would have rather had my teeth pulled than to sit down and read books, but Mike and the Magic Cookies was one of the first books to change my mind. I loved it from the first time I picked it up and could not stop reading it, over and over and over again. The storyline is simple, Mike goes out to get cookies for his family and ends up at a strange shop and getting magic ones. The cookies are each shaped like animals and as each member of his family eats a cookie, they all start turning into that animal, even the family cat! Suddenly, Mike has to fix everyone and himself before they all become animals permanently. I won’t give away the ending though.
Knowing my love of witches and magic, looking back, this book was perhaps one of my starters towards my own career. I still have this book and read it to my son and I hope to read it to my grandchildren one day. I encourage others who haven’t read this book to go find it and read it, especially if your child is resistant to reading like I was. No child, boy or girl, can resist magic cookies.
